DIY between 1:00 - 3:00

New Project:

 Day 1:

So I found a very nice piece of furniture at the SA Monday morning and I've decided to claim it as my first large DIY project. The word large is one of those relative scale terms (like the Earth being the size of a basketball and the moon a decent Panera cookie). Here's the piece in it's 1982 glory. I say that because I has the EXACT same bedroom set when I was young and even then I knew I wanted to change it, so this (and the fact I bought it with my own money) caught my eye.
After throwing it into the back of the gold-fished fueled Red Bomber (and dumping a pound of yogurt covered raisins/goldfish/leftover kid yuck/ out of Budders' carseat) I picked up some oil based white primer (we'll come back to this thought later) and primed and sanded the mess out of it.

Then once Curly-Boo and Budd had gone to bed, I sanded once more and put the first of many coats of high gloss black paint.

Day 2:

More sanding and painting. The weather is remarkable with a nice breeze that helps with the fumes but not with the dust. Let's hope it dries and looks pretty. Now, on to looking for glass drawer pulls. Eventually I'll redo the inside of the drawers with some nice scrapbook paper but that's a rainy day project.

A little streaky

Day 3-4:

Something that I've learned is that 75% humidity and 90 degree heat can wreek havoc on newly painted items so yesterday I raced to get the dresser into the house before it melted or swelled like a Georgia tick. A little late because the the bottom drawers began to bubble. Nevertheless, I'm somewhat liking the result. I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to keep or change what's on the table and the mirror is currently being revamped.
***The "knobs" are NOT permanent.*** The old ones basically disintegrated after I tried to remove the layer of paint that were on them and the ones I purchased didn't fit. I'll be on the lookout but until then, the art supplies are out of the Dining room and I am on to my next project.
